Artist statement

Die Beschäftigung mit organischen Strukturen und Prozessen ist ein wesentlicher Aspekt meiner künstlerischen Arbeit. Besonders die Grundbedingungen der menschlichen Existenz, der Ursprung des Lebens und die Natur des Todes, aber auch alltägliche, ausgeblendete Prozesse und Erfahrungen stehen im Zentrum meiner künstlerischen Praxis.
Zu Beginn des Schaffensprozesses steht zumeist eine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit der Funktion und Bedeutung von Materialien und Stoffen, die sowohl bildhauerisch als auch im Alltag zum Einsatz kommen: Ton, Asche, Penatencreme, Kohle, Sand, Wickelunterlagen, Talkum... Im Umgang mit den verschiedenen Materialien interessiert mich vor allem das Element der Berührung und des Berührtwerdens. So basiert eine Anzahl meiner Arbeiten auf Gegenständen und Produkten, die im direkten Kontakt mit der menschlichen Haut sind. Mir ist es wichtig, sinnliche Bezüge zu Körperlichkeit, Verletzlichkeit und Vergänglichkeit herzustellen und greifbar zu machen und auf Prozesse und Aufgaben hinzuweisen, die essentiell, aber gesellschaftlich weniger sichtbar sind, wie Erziehungs- und Pflegearbeit.
Ein sicherlich entscheidender Punkt ist, dass ich Mutter bin. Aus dieser Perspektive beschäftige ich mich als Künstlerin mit der Sichtbarmachung als Reaktion auf Isolation und Unsichtbarkeit unbezahlter Pflege- und Fürsorgearbeit.
Der künstlerische Output von Müttern und Menschen mit Fürsorgeaufgaben ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil der kulturellen Landschaft und sollte als natürlich wahrgenommen  werden.

Artist Statement
Engaging with organic structures and processes is a central aspect of my artistic practice. In particular, I focus on the fundamental conditions of human existence—the origin of life and the nature of death—as well as everyday, often overlooked processes and experiences.
At the beginning of my creative process there is usually an intensive exploration of the function and meaning of materials and substances used both in sculpture and in daily life: clay, ash, Penaten cream, charcoal, sand, changing pads, talcum powder… In working with these materials, I am especially interested in the element of touch—both touching and being touched. Many of my works are therefore based on objects and products that come into direct contact with human skin. It is important to me to create and make tangible sensory connections to corporeality, vulnerability, and transience, and to draw attention to processes and tasks that are essential yet less visible in society, such as caregiving and nurturing work.
A decisive aspect is that I am a mother. From this perspective, I engage as an artist in making visible what often remains unseen, as a response to the isolation and invisibility of unpaid care and domestic labor.
The artistic output of mothers and people with caregiving responsibilities is an important part of the cultural landscape and should be recognized as such.

Declaración artística
La exploración de estructuras y procesos orgánicos es un aspecto central de mi práctica artística. En particular, me interesan las condiciones fundamentales de la existencia humana—el origen de la vida y la naturaleza de la muerte—, así como procesos y experiencias cotidianas que a menudo permanecen invisibilizadas.
Al inicio de mi proceso creativo suele haber una investigación intensiva sobre la función y el significado de materiales y sustancias que se utilizan tanto en la escultura como en la vida diaria: arcilla, ceniza, crema Penaten, carbón, arena, cambiadores, talco… En el trabajo con estos materiales, me interesa especialmente el elemento del tacto: tocar y ser tocado. Por ello, varias de mis obras se basan en objetos y productos que están en contacto directo con la piel humana. Para mí es importante establecer y hacer tangibles conexiones sensoriales con la corporalidad, la vulnerabilidad y la transitoriedad, así como señalar procesos y tareas que son esenciales pero socialmente menos visibles, como el trabajo de cuidado y crianza.
Un aspecto decisivo es que soy madre. Desde esta perspectiva, como artista me ocupo de hacer visible aquello que a menudo permanece oculto, como respuesta al aislamiento y la invisibilidad del trabajo de cuidado no remunerado.
La producción artística de madres y personas con responsabilidades de cuidado es una parte importante del paisaje cultural y debería ser reconocida como tal.
